Animal Husbandry
Australian animal welfare standards are arguably the strongest in the world. The Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Cattle & Sheep secures the wellbeing and welfare of every animal throughout its life - and along the entire supply chain. For the growing number of customers for whom ethical production informs purchasing decisions, Australian beef & lamb provides a welcome assurance of a life well lived.
For our farmers, welfare is not just a legal imperative. Our business is our animals: their welfare is at the heart of every decision our farmers make.
Scientific studies reflect that advanced animal welfare practices play a crucial role in enhancing animal productivity and the quality and taste of meat. When animals are raised in stress-free environments with proper care, they exhibit stronger immune systems and healthier growth, leading to higher quality meat. Stress reduction in animals, facilitated through comfortable living conditions and ethical husbandry, directly impacts meat tenderness and flavour, as stress hormones like cortisol can adversely affect meat texture and taste. Additionally, ethical breeding, natural diet, and behaviour practices not only contribute to the animals’ well-being, but also improve the nutritional profile of the meat.

Clean and green
Australian beef has long had a global reputation for being clean, green, and safe. The globally-recognised Australian Beef Sustainability Framework outlines the industry-wide key indicators of care of natural resources, people and the community, the health and welfare of animals, and the drive for continuous improvement.
Topstock Collective producers honour and exceed best practice. Our farmers are united by our mission to nurture the earth so that the earth nurtures us back. This holistic approach aligns with the growing consumer demand for ethically-produced, high-quality meat that supports the health of people and the planet.
Our farmers adopt a range of practices in their quest for continuous clean and green improvement - from using regenerative practices that boost soil health and in turn the nutritional quality of the pastures, to minimising the use of chemical inputs. The result is beef that is not only more sustainable, but more nutritious, and with a more desirable flavour profile.
